Installing FileLinx Pro on Your PC

ATTENTION:  Before you install the Filelinx PC Software, please check the following:

  1. JAVA is installed on your PC, get this free software at  Java.com.

  2. You are installing on a PC with a Windows operating system

  3. We recommend using Internet Explorer to download this software.

This will ensure a successful installation of the FileLinx PC Software.

STEP 1.  Visit the DroidLinx website to get the Free PC Software - Click Here

Note:  The PC software  works with both FileLinx, and FileLinx Pro.

Click “Get PC Software” button. Make sure it is the FILELINX PC SOFTWARE and NOT Safelinx.

Your FileLinx PC software will install automatically!

During installation, depending on your security settings, the Java Web Start software may display one or more dialogs asking for your approval to install the software. You must approve each step for the installation to complete.

If nothing happens after a few seconds when you click the Get PC Software button , you may not have Java installed. Please go to the Java site  and install the latest version

STEP 2.    Set up the Droidlinx PC Software

Your FileLinx PC software will start up immediately after downloading.

When the FPC software starts for the first time, you should see three windows open.

1.  The window you will see first is a brief overview of the recent updates to the FPC control panel.  Click "OK" to close this window.

2.  The second, smaller, window is a simple warning dialog which lets you know that the settings have not been entered yet.  This will not open again once you have set up your FPC software.  Click "OK" to close this window.

3.  The third window, which should now be completely visible on your screen, is the Main FPC Control Panel, displayed below.

S1

You are now ready to fill in the fields in the upper portion of the FPC Control Panel as follows:

a) Server Name: Enter any name you choose to identify the FileLinx program running on the host PC.

b) Port Number: Default is set at 8888. We recommend you leave this default unless you will be setting up multiple PCs. Each PC on the same netork must use a different port number e.g. 8888,8889,8890,etc.

c)  Username:  Whatever  you choose

d) Password: Whatever  you choose

Note: Only one user/password combination is allowed at a time per computer.

e) Shared (Top Level) Folder: This is the “path name” to the top level shared folder, on the host PC.   The FileLinx Pro client can access files in this folder and any of its subfolders. Hence the name “Top Level.”

For example, a setting of  "C:\ " will allow complete navigation of the "C" drive.  FileLinx also must be set to run with Full Administrator privileges on the host PC.

"  C:\Users\Computer Name  " will allow access to all folders under your User Account (Windows 7 and Vista).  In Windows XP the path would be:  "  C:\Documents and Settings\Computer Name   "

After filling in the above values, click the "Save Settings" button to store the values on the host PC.

STEP 3.  Remote Setup to Access your PC outside your home network

The  "Remote Setup" button  on the FileLinx PC Control Panel  will attempt to automatically configure your network router to forward the port selected in the "Port Number" box.

Click the "Remote Setup" button and in a few moments a message should appear letting you know that "port forwarding is complete".  If successful, you will have access to your PC using your FileLinx Android app. from anywhere!

“Universal Plug and Play” (UPnP) must be enabled in your router. Most routers are shipped with this feature activated by default. See your router's instruction manual for details if you are not sure.

Remote Disconnect
If you have used the "Remote Setup" button successfully, but want to change the port number you are using for access to the server, you should first press the Disconnect button, which should remove the port-forwarding rule that was installed on your router. Then, and only then, change the port number to the new value and press "Remote Setup."

Now that you have filled in all of the empty field boxes in the FileLinx PC Control Panel it is time to configure your Android device to communicate with your PC.

STEP 4.  Installing FileLinx Pro on Your Android

Purchase, download, and install FileLinx Professional from the  Android Market.

When your FileLinx Pro App. opens on your Android, you should see the Main Menu screen, as shown below.

Press the Folder Settings button to view the folder settings screen, which is shown below with typical values entered.

Folder1

Folder and Security Settings:
“Local” Folder entry fields refer to folders on the Android device, as follows:

(a) Starting Folder/: This is the folder where files will be accessed to send to your PC.  In the example, we have used “/sdcard”, which refers to the SD card mounted in the Android device.

If the SD card  is not present or damaged, you will be able to send files from the Android device to the PC, but you will not be able to receive files from the PC. Tablets have an internal SD card by default.

(b) Storage Folder: This is the local folder on the SD card in the Android device, to which files transferred, or "fetched", from the PC will be stored.

In the example we have used “/FileLinx Storage”, which refers to a folder on the SD card.

The entries for the “PC Folders”are greyed-out. intentionally.

(c) Security Settings
An additional/ optional username and password that can be used to restrict access to the FileLinx Pro application on the Android device.

If left blank, there is no restriction, and anyone can run the FileLinx Pro App from your Android device. If set up, a user will be required to enter the username and password to open the FileLinx Pro App.

Connections Settings:

Using Auto Link- New!

Auto-Link is a new feature we have developed to streamline the setup process. Once the PC settings are entered, with the press of a button those settings are transferred to your Android device.

NOTE: MAKE SURE YOUR ANDROID DEVICE'S WIFI IS ON AND CONNECTED TO THE SAME HOME NETWORK AS THE COMPUTER THAT YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE FILELINX SOFTWARE OTHERWISE AUTOLINK WILLL NOT WORK.

Press the the Server Connections button in the Main Menu to view this entry screen as shown below.

Just below the legend “Host PC Connections…” there is a gold bar giving the name of a FileLinx Host PC after the number “1”. This is a “pulldown” list, which allows you to select from up to 10 PC's running the FileLinx software.

The FileLinx PRO Settings for this Host PC are as follows:
